BeatriX

http://www.watsky.net/

Beatrix is the name of a cat and BeatriX is the name the minimalist Linux distribution developed by the cat's owner. You can see Beatrix here in the screen shot.

Good PointsWeak Points
  • minimalist but attractive GUI
  • networking easy to set up
  • clock weirdness -always reset it to minus 5 hours my local time
  • comes with Beep media player - a stripped down XMMS - not as nice as the original
  • couldn't set up printing

BeatriX is an interesting minimalist distribution. This is another one that fits into 200 MB. However, it's a bit too minimalist, perhaps. The basic applications you need to get work done are there - the Firefox browser, the OpenOffice suite and Evolution (email, scheduling, task manager) but that's about it. It uses the latest version of GNOME (2.8) for the desktop and it's quite attractive. If you're looking for something to carry around with you that will boot up quickly and is easy to work with, BeatriX is a good choice. In future versions though, some things could be added to it.

Next: And finally... Damn Small Linux
