Knoppix

Knoppix is maintained by Klaus Knopper. His distribution is so important
for the Linux community that he recently appeared alongside Linus Torvalds on a list of the most influential people in the tech industry.
Though not strictly the first live CD distribution, Knoppix is the most
popular. As I mentioned, a good number of Live CD projects have used
Knoppix as a base. Knoppix itself is based on Debian. The version used
in the evaluation was the latest - Knoppix 3.7
| Good Points | Weak Points |
- jam packed with applications
- latest KDE desktop
- network setup was easy
- sound worked right way - no need
for tweaking
- printing set up was easy
|
No Firefox
Fonts are ugly on boot. Have to
reconfigure in KDE control panel and restart GUI.

Knoppix passes the test with flying colors. The only problem I find - and
this takes into account that I am a Linux advocate by profession- is
that Knoppix at first site is not as attractive as others. But Knoppix has
everything you need - and then some. To paraphrase Samuel Johnson - If
you tired of Knoppix, you are tired of Linux, for Knoppix has everything
that Linux has to offer.
