I am eager to learn linux, but how to start it?

Hello everyone! I am so glad to write to you! I am a web programmer in China, majored mainly in PHP and JS. I have never studied abroad in a Enlish spoken country and my English is just so so. Now I can install, configue and use softwares and do program developing by NetBeans, Eclipse, etc in Windows OS. I know that is just a status of a beginner and I wish to enter the gate of linux and become a real guru.
I tried the community locally in China. But I found that in China, people are just interested in such things that can work or can bring money to them in minutes. There is no help for beginners and completely new ones. So I signed up here and wish to obtain helps.
I have a intel i-5 PC with 4G memory and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M video card. I installed a cent-os as a virtual machine in my Windows 7 OS. Although the interface is somewhat similar to windows, I found that I even can not install a software when I have dowloaded them from the internet, and I found that the only browser there is a firefox and I can not find the directory it installed to put a plug-in for display Adobe flash movies.
It is quite evident that I need learn much more to use the linux as fluently as I use the windows systems. But how can I start my leaning. How can I get learning resources? Is there some good tutorials or materials in the community or the internet?
The linux is good, but where is its manuals? I suddenly relise that there is no manuals in my hand till I started to use windows in 1995. Bit and bit I got more and more experiences about windows and approximately mastered it in 2005. It is 10 years. In 2009, I start to view MSDN just for some unusual problems. I wish the time I master linux will be much shorter than the time I was explorering in windows. Is there something to linux like MSDN to windows? If there is, I hope I can find it right now! Thank you for reading this! Thank you for your kindness!
