Application: DAR - Disk ARchive

DAR - makes full or differential backups over a set of disks (floppy, CD-R, zip, etc.) or a set of file. DAR can also use compression. A filter mechanisme allows to include/exclude files or directory from backup or restoration. Direct access to a file within an archive allows fast restoration Dar also takes care of Extended Attributes and hard links, it can also be used remotely through ssh session. DAR can also be used to split a huge file in several small files of given size. Selective compression allow you to specify wich type of file are elected for compresssion. You can run a command or script between slices (for example burning a CD, sending a email or playing a sound). Scrambling feature (light encryption) and configuration file are two other recent features. Last point, dar_manager help you easily recover a set of file from a huge set of differential and full backups.
