Application: ppovit

Ppovit is a small Perl program that reads 3D molecular structure coordinates in Protein Data Bank (PDB) format and generates a scene description script that can be used as input for the Persistence Of Vision (POV) ray-tracer to create high quality images of macromolecular models. Images displaying a combination of solid bond, ball and stick, and space-filled models are possible. The user can control individual atom and bond visibility, size, and coloring, as well as the orientation and center of the model view. The output of the program is intended to represent a starting point in preparing more elaborate images of molecular structures using the advanced rendering capabilities of the POV scene description language.
