Intel's Moblin Linux platform has finally arrived on netbooks. Ars takes a hands-on look at Dell's new Mini 10v with the Ubuntu Moblin Remix.

One major vendor, Dell, isn't just continuing to deliver laptops and netbooks with Ubuntu Linux; it's actually upgrading the version of Ubuntu it's shipping and, later this week, it will start selling Ubuntu 9.04-powered Inspiron 537s desktops.

Company says that reports that return rates on Linux-based Inspiron Mini netbooks were high compared to Windows netbooks is a non-issue.

Microsoft often claimed that netbooks running Linux saw higher return rates than those running Windows, but according to Dell, this is utter nonsense.

Dell plans to sell computers with preinstalled Linux outside the United States as well as offer the Ubuntu Linux distribution to small business customers.

Dell will offer its Linux PCs for $50 (£24) less than the equivalent Windows PCs, the company has revealed on one of its websites.

Dell isn't resting on its recent consumer Linux PC laurels. The computing giant has added a new laptop -- the Inspiron 1420 Notebook -- to its Ubuntu Linux 7.04 offering. It is also replacing the Dimension E520 desktop with the new, low-priced Inspiron 530.

According to one poster on an Ubuntu forum, Dell refused to sell him an Ubuntu machine for his small, non-profit business.

More than 20,000 people have signed a petition calling on Dell to offer Linux-based PCs outside of the US.
