Plus over Proton Mail: no privacy issues (in contrast to Proton) Minus: proprietary encryption works only between Tuta accounts. There are other options e.g. countermail, maibox with good privacy record... but I alvays use VPN when connecting to my email account.

    KDE Plasma 5.23.5 Crashes

But Wayland works? If so then something happened to your config. I would check your logs. Alien Bob will ask for your log files at least to understand the issue.

Can I completely stop memory caching?

This just mean that you do not understand the difference between CPU and RAM usage or worse how computer hardware works. When I compile program, I forceall CPUs to be fully utilized. This way program is compiled faster. At the same time I make sure that system is usable. When compilation is...

    KDE Plasma 5.23.5 Crashes

Can you explain what do you mean by "The menu to choose the subject of Plasma X11 DE is not listed among the long list it provides." Do you not see a menu, menu is incomplete and xfce or other DE/WM installed is missing. You can't select DE.

    KDE Plasma 5.23.5 Crashes

This is your KDE screwed up. I am on Slackware-current and my options are: Desktop Session: Plasma (X11) Plasma (Failsafe) Plasma (Wayland) Plasma (Full Wayland) plus XFce and Openbox. Based on the fact that you have issues with fonts I think that your KDE is damaged.

Can I completely stop memory caching?

Well stopping caching is oposite of performance. Usually making system use all RAM is what one wants. Free RAM is just free RAM. Pretty useless. There are some options with kernel for embedded systems that may help though. I never tested them so not sure if this will help. Nevertheless...

An article worth reading if you want deeper understanding of swappiness

    all depends what do you want to use: RAM or swap if RAM to use (and has 32GB): vm.dirty_ratio = 10 vm.dirty_background_ratio = 2 user.max_user_namespaces = 0 vm.stat_interval = 10 vm.swappiness = 100 -> make it 100 for nice balance vm.vfs_cache_pressure = 50 # for RT kernel only...

My SSD has Died and No Backups.

It makes sense to keep a backup of all the documents and other personal stuff but I never made a backup of the system. It really depends how prone to accidents one is. I had only two OS installations in the last 8 years. I would prefer to start fresh after such a long time. Of course if...

    I think im getting hacked

I doubt that you have got hacked. What are the chances that someone would know that you just installed Mint who would make so easy to discover that box is compromised by doing such obvious thing as changing password. Easiest explanation is that you set mistakenly wrong password. I hope hat...

    KDE Winner?

Funny ..not long time ago I read here that there is best init system. No such thing exist unless this is personal choice then obviously there is best OS, best DE/WM and so on. Regarding the link provided by OP. I think that Acitities are half baked. At least in the current iteration. Activities...

Linux (I use MINT) Browsers and VPNs

Naked Tor will raise red flags. Either run Tor within VPN or use chained VPN. Sane VPN works just fine if user know how to make it inconspicuous. Same thing with browsers. Whatever works and makes you happy. Here is a map of corporate, paid affiliates and legal problems...

Why Your VPN May Not Be As Secure As It Claims

I don't need typerwiter, I am using VPN and do not plan to stop using it. VPS with configured VPN for anonymity does not work. As the address is easily identifiable. It is simple to set up VM and enable VPN as VM network as in the case of android is not vulnerable to the attack. Or disable VPN...

Why Your VPN May Not Be As Secure As It Claims

so, I understand that ssh should be avoided too as it had a security hole not patched for several years... :) The whole point of using VPN is either secure intra company traffic or anonymity where one selects a server with maximum number of users sharing same dynamic IP address. When one chains...

The ULTIMATE Guide to Reasonable Security for your Debian/Ubuntu Linux Server for new Linux Admins

I would set up server this way: Read a lot about Linux servers configuration. Then: 1) install Linux off line 2) remove all unused software (remove X for dedicated server) 3) disable USB, bluetooth 4) close all network services 5) enable/configure firewall 6) configure ACL, harden sysctl.conf 7)...
